Job Description

About the Role

The Friends’ School is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Library Technician to join our Senior School on a permanent, full-time basis during term time. 

This role is responsible for providing library services to the Senior School students, staff and community by maintaining library and information services, operating and maintaining library circulation systems and managing digital resources.

The successful applicant will bring high level interpersonal skills and accuracy, strong time management skills and experience using a range of ICT hardware, software and other digital technologies.

Key Focus Areas

  • Perform a wide range of technical duties necessary to maintain library and information services. 
  • Construct and maintain bibliographic records.
  • Operate and maintain the library circulation system.
  • Issue, return and re-shelve library resources. 
  • Manage digital resources including training library users. 
  • Maintain the integrity of the collection by accurate shelving, shelf reading and stocktaking. 
  • Assist with the use of digital equipment. 
  • Contribute to maintaining the procedures manual and creating library webpages. 
  • Develop promotional materials and displays. 
  • Assist students and staff with physical and digital resources. 
  • Provide training for members of the school community as required.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services or equivalent. 
  • School library experience, and/or strong knowledge of, and experience with, children’s literature and literacy. 
  • Demonstrated experience using a range of ICT hardware, software and other digital technologies. 
  • High level of accuracy, strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure. 
  • A current Tasmania Working with Vulnerable People registration (employment) and have a National Police Check (less than 6 months old). 
  • A strong alignment with the Purpose & Concerns and ethos of The Friends’ School.
