About the Role
The Friends’ School is seeking an experienced and compassionate School Psychologist – Senior School to join our Wellbeing team on a maximum-term basis, full-time (with part-time applications also considered). The preferred start date for this position is 23 March 2026, or by negotiation.
This role focuses on supporting the wellbeing, mental health, and learning needs of students primarily in Years 9–12, through prevention, early intervention, and targeted support. Working closely with the Director of Wellbeing and Senior School leadership, the School Psychologist plays a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where students are empowered to thrive.
The successful applicant will bring strong clinical skills, sound professional judgement, and a collaborative approach to working with students, families, staff, and external professionals.
Key Focus Areas
- Provide individual and group counselling to Senior School students.
- Support early intervention, prevention, and wellbeing initiatives across Years 9–12.
- Identify, assess, and respond to student wellbeing and mental health needs.
- Administer and interpret appropriate psychological assessments and prepare reports as required.
- Collaborate with families, teaching staff, leadership, and external clinicians to support students.
- Case manage students with complex wellbeing or mental health needs, including transitions.
- Promote and uphold child safeguarding practices and mandatory reporting obligations.
- Contribute to pastoral care, wellbeing planning, and crisis response processes.
- Deliver information sessions and wellbeing initiatives for students, staff, and parents.
- Work collaboratively with Primary and Middle School Psychologists to ensure continuity of care.

Essential Qualifications
- Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Recognised tertiary qualifications in Psychology.
- Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Employment category).
- Current National Police Check (issued within the last 6 months).
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience providing counselling and psychological support to adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to administer and interpret psychometric assessments.
- Experience working in a school or educational setting (highly regarded).
- Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Capacity to manage sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
