Job Description

About the Role

The Friends’ School is seeking a caring, proactive, and dedicated individual to join our community as the Live-in Residence Supervisor – Walker House.

This live-in position plays a vital role in the care and supervision of students in Years 7 to 12 who reside in the School’s Boarding House. The Residence Supervisor is responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment, contributing positively to the wellbeing and educational experience of all boarders.

Walker House accommodates up to 45 domestic and international students and includes on-site accommodation for the successful candidate. We are seeking a hands-on, compassionate leader who upholds the School’s Quaker values and is committed to creating a nurturing, child-safe environment aligned with our Purpose and Concerns.

Key Focus Areas

The Residence Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting the health, wellbeing, and daily routines of boarding students.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students’ personal, social, and academic development.
  • Assisting with the smooth running of daily routines, including meals, study, and activities, and transportation.
  • Supervising students in the residence and during some out-of-school activities.
  • Providing low-level medical care and arranging or attending appointments as needed.
  • Helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment.
  • Supporting social activities and contributing to a positive residential community.
  • Participating in shift coverage, including occasional holiday supervision and relief work.

Essential Qualifications & Attributes

  • Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration (employment), National Police Check (less than 6 months old), and COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Current driver’s licence (manual preferred) and willingness to undertake required training, including ABSA courses, First Aid, and Youth Mental Health First Aid.
  • Proven experience within a school or residential environment, with strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Experience in boarding or residential care, including pastoral care of adolescents.
  • Understanding of and experience with the 10 National Child Safe Standards.
